End of support for Windows 7

On 14th of January 2020, Microsoft will officially stop supporting Windows 7. Although it is a myth that Windows 7 will stop working, you will be putting your computer and your business at risk if you keep using it because there will be no more support or security updates from Microsoft. You can be sure that there will be a much greater risk of security problems after that date as threat actors are most likely holding on to their exploits until then, knowing that they won’t ever be fixed if they hold off revealing them until after this date.

There is some confusion around whether the built-in anti-virus program, Microsoft Security Essentials, will keep working, but it is thought that it will continue to receive anti-virus definitions but the program itself will no longer be supported or updated. Initially there may be a surge of interest in third party anti-virus and security software from Windows 7 users, but as the market share diminishes it won’t be long before other vendors drop support for the operating system as well.

It is fair to say that Windows 10 had its fair share of criticism when it was launched, but it is a much more stable and mature product now, and there is no reason for businesses to avoid it.
